Not only is the Head of the Oversight Committee Rep. Jason Chaffetz not running for reelection after rumors surfaced that the reason he wouldn’t pursue the claims that Russia and Trump were meddling in the election was because he was being blackmailed. Well, it looks like those rumors just might be true after all.
That’s right. The plot thickens.
On Thursday, Chaffetz made another startling announcement when he told a radio station in Utah that he may even resign from his current seat.

Now, why wouldn’t Chaffetz want out now? Why not just finish his term and not seek reelection?
Chaffetz rose to stardom in the Republican party after leading the investigation into Hillary Clinton’s actions in Benghazi and others debunked claims, such as her using a private email server during her time as Secretary of State. Nonetheless, the Republicans adored him for his efforts. And Chaffetz quickly rose through the ranks. Which is why him announcing that he may resign comes as shocking news.
Of course, Chaffetz did not go into details as to why he would leave or even when. But if sources are correct, and Russian operatives have compromising information on the congressman, we can certainly see why he would want out now.
At the end of the day, when it comes to another corrupt Republican leaving his seat, we say good riddance. Let’s drain the swamp!
