Despite the fact that President-Elect Donald Trump repeatedly attacked and belittle what he deemed to be “establishment” Republicans all during the campaign, few Republicans are willing to speak up against him now that he’ll soon be assuming power.
One Republican who never warmed to Trump or embraced his campaign is conservative radio host Charlie Sykes, who recently belittled Trump’s lack of intellectual bandwidth in a brutal burn.
Lawrence O’Donnell had Sykes on his program, and said to Sykes, “It seems like the stock market in other parts of the world are going to have to learn to in effect devalue Trump tweets. That they have no real meaning. I mean, for example, he attacks Boeing one day and the stock drops a bit during the day. Then he comes back and praises Boeing and attacks another competitor of Boeing and drives that stock down.”
Charlie Sykes’ response was one for the ages. He said, “You just don’t know. I mean, when does this jump the shark? I mean also, this is going to encapsulate, and this is really going to symbolize the quality of this man’s thought. I mean, there was a time when we had presidents who read books. Now we have presidents who write in one hundred and forty character messages. You know we once had presidents who were eloquent, who could rally the nation. But, you know, here is a president who does feel comfortable on Twitter because I do think that that is the perfect venue for the quality of his thinking. And I think that that is going to be something that’s going to be a defining element in his presidency.” Ouch! Do you agree with Charlie’s take on Trump’s intelligence?
