It’s finally happened. The day we have all been waiting for. That’s right. According to CNN, “Federal prosecutors have issued grand jury subpoenas to associates of former National Security Advisor Michael Flynn seeking business records, as part of the ongoing probe of Russian meddling in last year’s election.”
Early Tuesday, while Comey was addressing his FBI employees in Los Angeles, he received the news that he had been fired. Some feel this was Trump’s way of interfering with the investigation. The New York Times even compared the surprise firing event to Nixon’s “Saturday Night Massacre.”
Now the investigation is really underway. According to sources, those colleagues who received these subpoenas were those who worked with Flynn on foreign contracts once he was fired from the Defense Intelligence Agency in 2014.
A probe was launched into Mike Flynn after he failed to disclose payments made by foreign governments, including Turkey and Russia when applying for his security clearance in the Trump White House. Flynn also neglected to disclose a $45,000 payment for appearing at the ten-year anniversary event for Russia Today, the propaganda arm for the Kremlin. Which is inexcusable.
Perhaps Trump is desperate to try and slow the investigation by firing Comey. But today’s revelations show that the probe is well on its way. Things are moving forward and it appears that progress is being made.
Now that the subpoenas have been issued, America must sit back and wait for the witnesses to come forward and reveal the truth about President Trump’s connections to Russia. How long must we wait?
