Senile man-child Donald Trump is having an incredibly hard time attracting any performer of any caliber to play at his inauguration on January 20th. More than anything, it is proof of just how toxic Trump is to anybody with a reputation that extends beyond the fringe extreme-right.
Former Dancing with the Stars booker Susan Bender was given the thankless task of roping in talent for the inauguration, and so far has had zero luck beyond deeply un-cool teen singer Jackie Evancho and the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. Six huge names are among the performers who have turned Trump down flat.
An early report stated that Elton John would be performing. This surprised many, and investment banker Anthony Scaramucci even justified John’s performing with the completely wrong statement that “This will be the first American president in U.S. history that enters the White House with a pro-gay-rights stance.” Shot back John’s publicist, “Incorrect. He will NOT be performing.” Another name that was floated was contemporary country behemoth Garth Brooks, who even opined about performing, “It’s always about serving. It’s what you do.” Then Brooks said no.
Trump-backing casino magnate promised Trump that he would get Celine Dion to perform. The Canadian singer refused. Another name that was floated was opera singer Andrea Bocelli, who is personal friends with Trump. However, the friendship clearly doesn’t transcend Trump’s toxicity, as Bocelli ended up saying no. John Legend will not be performing. Stated Legend, “Creative people tend to reject bigotry and hate. We tend to be more liberal-minded. When we see somebody that’s preaching division and hate and bigotry, it’s unlikely he’ll get a lot of creative people that want to be associated with him.” When asked if he would perform, KISS frontman Gene Simmons couldn’t even answer, as his wife and daughter both screamed “No!” Are you happy that Trump is being near-universally snubbed?
